Call to artists: Place for Sport public art project

Place for Sport - public art project - News

The District of West Vancouver invites artists or artist teams who reside in BC to design and integrate site-specific public art at Place for Sport in West Vancouver, BC.

Project

A proposal for either an art mural or integrated art installation is being requested for Place for Sport located at 1750 Mathers Avenue at the West Vancouver Secondary School site. As part of the redevelopment of the track and field, an art element will be incorporated into a wall at the sport field.

Public art objectives

The public art project created for Place for Sport will:

  • create an engaging element that sparks intrigue and dialogue
  • provide ongoing interest and relevance to the users of the sports field
  • integrate into the overall design and features of the sports field
  • reflect both the setting and the energy of Place for Sport—convey movement, inspiration, resiliency, energy, inclusivity across age, gender, and ability, and a sense of youthfulness

The proposed location for artwork is the long wall near the entrance to the track. Artists can submit proposals for either an art mural, a fabricated installation, or both.

Art mural: Artists may submit proposals for an art mural on the wall of the proposed site.

Fabricated installation: Artists may submit proposals to create a fabricated wall installation using alternative materials such as stainless steel or aluminum.

Submissions for the Stage One Expression of Interest are due by 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
